Located on the FM dial at 96.7 MHZ , 97 Underground began it’s assault on Baltimore radio in the Spring of 1987, mixing new and classic hard rock with some local music, as well.The Underground’ began as an evening only format run by the students the high school and featured predominantly Classic Rock with a harder edge. The actual Classic Rock format on traditional radio did not even appear until 1984. In 1985, 97 Underground went into transition. With Hard Rock and Heavy Metal gaining widely in popularity, 97 Underground began it’s assault on Baltimore radio in the Spring of 1987, mixing new and classic hard rock with some local music, as well.
